Privacy Policy

Ibis · SIM DAD LLC · Effective April 12, 2026 · Version 1.0

This Privacy Policy describes how SIM DAD LLC (“SIM DAD,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Ibis desktop application and the Ibis website at useibis.app. Ibis is a local Whisper-based audio transcription desktop app that runs entirely on your machine.

1. Information the Application Collects

Ibis processes all audio files and transcription entirely on your local machine. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your audio files, transcripts, or usage data.

The only information transmitted from the application is during license key activation, which includes:

This activation data is processed by Gumroad on behalf of SIM DAD LLC. No other data leaves your machine through the application.

2. Information the Website Collects

The Ibis website at useibis.app may collect the following information:

3. No Telemetry or Cloud Processing

Ibis does not include any telemetry, crash reporting, or usage analytics. All audio transcription and processing happens 100% locally on your device. No audio files or transcripts are ever sent to SIM DAD LLC or any third party.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

5. Data Retention and Deletion

License activation data is retained for as long as your license is active. Email addresses collected through the mailing list are retained until you unsubscribe or request removal.

To request deletion of your personal data, contact us at support@simdadllc.com. We will process your request within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited personal data we collect. Because Ibis processes all content locally, your audio files and transcripts never leave your device and are protected by your own system’s security.

Audio files in the Completed folder are encrypted at rest using age v1 (X25519 plus ChaCha20-Poly1305), with the X25519 secret key stored in the Windows Credential Manager rather than on disk. Three independent paths exist to decrypt your own data: in-app replay of the most recent recording, in-app bulk export to plaintext from Settings, and a standalone tools/recover.py script shipped inside the installer that works without Ibis itself or any SIM DAD service. The encryption design, threat model, key-management approach, and accuracy benchmark are documented in the substantiation paper at doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.19931717.

7. Children’s Privacy

Ibis is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at support@simdadllc.com and we will promptly delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Ibis after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

9. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
